So what is Rumba? Rumba is a folk dance combining a family of music rhythms and dance styles that originally came from Africa - travelling to Cuba via the slave trade. It incorporates both Spanish and African elements. And often features complex footwork and violent hip movement.
This DVD incorporates 2 types of Cuban Rumba:
# Yambú - a slower, more basic style where people (often older generations) dance in a more relaxed manner
# Guaguancó - a fast to moderate pace, the rhythm can be complex and sometimes couples dance flirtatiously. The man throws his arm/leg/pelvis in the direction of his femael partner - as if to attempt a sexual touch with her. She in turn entices him, but turns away when he reciprocates by reaching out.
