José Carrión was the principal dancer & corps professor of Ballet Folklórico Cutumba de Santiago de Cuba. Born in Santiago, he began his career as a professional dancer in 1980 when he joined Cutumba at the age of 17. After 25 years of teaching & presenting both folkloric & popular Cuban dance, José retired from Cutumba. He now lives in the US, where he is the co-director of the Academy of Cuban Folkore & Dance in Seattle, Washington.
SON CUBANO is the third in a series of instructional Cuban dance DVDs to be produced by the Academy of Cuban Folklore and Dance. This DVD features detailed instruction on Cuban Son including the basic step with clave, turn combinations & tornillos. The DVD also includes a lecture, "Raices del Son", as well as demos & performances by Cutumba.
